Sharpsburg Area EMS General Information

Location: 110 1/2 W Chapline St Sharpsburg, MD 21782

SAEMS is located in the historic town of Sharpsburg, MD. The first due area includes the Antietam National Battlefield and a portion of the C&O Canal tow path.

Mission: To provide ambulance services necessary to support the needs of the community of Sharpsburg and its vicinity, and shall do so in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations.

Equipment: SAEMS has 2 ALS equipped ambulances that meet and exceed Maryland Certificate of Excellence standards. Both units are equipped with Lifepak 15 cardiac monitors and LUCAS 2 CPR devices. SAEMS also has a BLS equipped support vehicle that can retrieve patients from areas that cannot be accessed via ambulance.

 

History of Sharpsburg EMSĀ 

Sharpsburg Area Emergency Medical Services was formed August 1, 1968. The first ambulance was a 1963 Cadillac that was purchased for $3800. The first officers of the company were: Warren Davis, president; Clifford Bussard, Vice President and Second Lieutenant; Hellend Campbell, Secretary; Gene Eichelberger, Chief; William Petefish, Captain; Morris Petefish, First Lieutenant; Glen Bussard, First Sergeant; and Fred Baker, Second Sergeant. Ed Talbot, Elmer Koontz, Levin G. Benner, Dallas Waters and Jacob Shaw made up the Board of Directors.
